Metalwork

Metal painting in Orlando.

Railings, fences, gates, awnings, light posts and metal doors stripped of rust, primed to resist corrosion and finished cleanly.

Metal Painting

Stopping rust before the paint

Humidity, summer storms and salt air carried inland all work on exterior metal. Paint applied over rust traps it, and the finish lifts within a season or two. We start by removing loose rust and failing paint with wire brushing, scraping and sanding until the surface is sound. Edges, welds, joints and the undersides of rails get the same attention as the faces, since that is where corrosion usually starts.

Bare and cleaned areas receive a rust-inhibiting primer matched to the metal, whether wrought iron, steel or aluminum. Aluminum and galvanized surfaces get a primer that bonds to smooth, nonporous metal. Finish coats are exterior products made for metal and for Florida sun. The result is an even, consistent color on every picket and post, with clean lines where metal meets stucco, concrete or wood.

Questions

Metal Painting FAQs.

Can you paint over rust?

Loose rust has to come off first. We remove it down to a sound surface, then apply a rust-inhibiting primer so the finish coats have something stable to bond to.

Does aluminum need a different primer than iron?

Yes. Aluminum is smooth and nonporous, so it needs a bonding primer made for it. Iron and steel need a primer that inhibits corrosion.

Is heavily rusted metal worth painting?

If the metal is still structurally sound, careful prep and primer give it a solid finish. If it is rusted through or weakened, it should be repaired or replaced before painting.
